Everybody’s talking about AI right now, and if you’re a solo business owner or have a very small team, it’s easy to feel like you’re behind if you’re not using it much. Here’s what I’m actually seeing with my clients: they don’t need fancy AI tools. They need systems thinking.
Most small business owners are drowning because they haven’t mapped out how their business actually works. They’re tool-shopping when they should be designing an ideal workflow. Honestly, that’s what separates a business that runs you from a business that fits into your life.
I work with mostly solo entrepreneurs, and the thing that saves them time isn’t a shiny new tool. It’s clarity on their workflows, their processes, and where things are getting stuck. Once you have that mapped out, the right solutions become more obvious. Sometimes it’s a tweak to the settings of a tool you already have. Sometimes it’s a simple automation in Zapier. It’s rare that you actually need anything more complicated than that.
If you’re using AI to chat through ideas or create content, and that’s all right now – no shame! You don’t need to be on the bleeding edge of agentic models and everything else.
I’ll be straightforward here: my strength with technology is mostly in how I think about it and choose to apply it. I have great developers and AI specialists in my circle who know way more than me when it comes to hands-on setup and coding – and I lean on them when the work calls for it. But the thinking that comes first? That’s my superpower.
